The Essex County Museum and Historical Society preserves and celebrates the history, heritage, and stories of Essex County, Tappahannock, the Rappahannock River, and the people who shaped the region. Visitors can explore local exhibits, historical collections, special events, and a gift shop connected to the area’s heritage.

St. Margaret’s School
Riverfront girls Episcopal boarding and day school dates back to 1921 when students arrived by steamboat. The campus stretches over 900 feet and can be rented for weddings, camps, meetings and other events. Indoor space can accommodate both small and large groups. River lawn area, the most popular event setting, can accommodate as many as 500 guests. Residence halls offer lodging options.
Tappahannock Art Gallery
Enjoy and buy art at this downtown cooperative gallery of the Tappahannock Artists Guild that showcases the work of local artists and educates the community with cultural programming. The guild is part of the River to Bay Artisans Trail that links the gallery with other art venues on the Middle Peninsula.
