New Gift Card Program in Downtown Tappahannock Launches with Double Dollar Promotion

Tappahannock, Virginia — The Historic Downtown Tappahannock Association invites the community to shop local with its new Downtown Dollars Gift Card program that launches Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024, with a special “double dollars” promotion.

DOUBLE DOLLARS SOCIAL

Downtown Dollars is one card that can be used to shop at more than 25 participating merchants, including restaurants, shops and service providers located throughout downtown Tappahannock.

The first 100 people who buy a $100 Downtown Dollars Gift Card will receive a second Downtown Dollars Gift Card also worth $100. The first 50 people to buy one $50 gift card will get two $50 gift cards. The first 25 people to buy a $25 gift card will receive another $25 gift card.

The double dollars buy one, get one free promotion only applies to cards sold in person between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., as long as supplies last on Feb. 3 at the Historic Downtown Tappahannock Association office located at 315 Duke Street in Tappahannock. Anyone purchasing a card that day will also receive a free gift.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our community,” said Beth Sharpe, Executive Director of the Historic Downtown Tappahannock Association, an official Virginia Main Street designated community. “Downtown Dollars is a way to collaboratively support all the businesses and encourage more economic growth downtown.”

For a list of participating merchants that accept the Downtown Dollars Gift Card, go here. New merchants and vendors will be added to the program as they become available. Business owners who want to take part in the program can register free of charge by emailing beth@downtowntappahannock.org.

Cards are available for use immediately after purchase. While they make excellent gifts, Sharpe encourages people to buy one for personal use also.

“Think of this card as one card, many choices. We’ve created the whole Tapp-In campaign to connect people, places and spaces,” Sharpe said. “Downtown Dollars will not only connect businesses together. It will connect our community to our businesses.”

Cash and credit cards are the only payment methods accepted for the Feb. 3 promotion. After that date, cards will be sold year-round online at downtowntappahannock.org and in person at the Tappahannock Farmers’ Market and at the Historic Downtown Tappahannock Association office during walk-in hours. The double dollars promotion is limited to two cards per household.

A 5% transaction fee applies to all Downtown Dollars Gift Cards purchased using a credit card.

The Historic Downtown Tappahannock Association celebrates the preservation and revitalization of a designated Virginia Main Street. As an affiliate of Main Street America, the nonprofit is committed to strengthening the town of Tappahannock through preservation-based economic development with the cooperation of local downtown businesses. The Historic Downtown Tappahannock Association is dedicated to diversifying and expanding business and cultural opportunities while maintaining the historical core of one of Virginia’s most storied towns.
